Going for a ride that is sure to show how tough you are? Then maybe the Hummer H1 is the vehicle of your choice.
The Hummer H1 is part of the Humvee or Hummer family which was originally designed for the military. This war machine has a four wheel drive capability for rough terrain and a sleek body that boasts of rugged dependability. Its original name was the High Mobility Multi-purpose Wheeled Vehicle or the HMMWV. It was later called the Humvee, for short.
The Humvee boasted of high maneuver capacity in rough terrain including going through 30 inches of water with a 16 inch clearance off the ground. The vehicles capabilities were tried and tested in the first Gulf war and proved its worth among the soldiers who manned the sturdy war machine.
The Humvee was featured in many television write ups and the viewing public soon caught up with the Humvee fever. Because of the public’s warm and unprecedented reaction to the vehicle, AM General (the makers of the original military Humvee) decided to add up and maximize the attraction of the public to the rough and tumble machine. A civilian version in 1992 was released and was officially named the Hummer. GM (General Motors) was able to buy the rights for the Hummer name and used it to rename the vehicle the H1.
The Hummer weighs more than two family cars added together and is fuelled by a V8 engine. Its transmission is automatic and powers up its four wheel drive traction. Its’ rough image, though capable in maneuvering in terrain that will make the normal street car weep, you would not probably like to drive it on normal street conditions. Its’ large built makes it hard to maneuver in narrow streets and the size of its seats are not fitted for leisure driving because of its size (small and very uncomfortable).
