The Corvette was conceptualized by Mr. Harley Earl of General Motors who thought that a 2-seater sport for the American market would be great. And on on June 30, 1953, the American Corvette was born. Its body was made from a specially tested resin. It has a steel lined fiber glass build with a separate chassis.
In 1962, the Corvette stingray was introduced. It came with a V8 5.3 liter engine with a fuel injection option that can increase its power output to 360 BHP monster output. This model made the public notice General Motors and soon enough were cheering for the Corvette Stingray as it took to the racing circuits.
It had a different appearance from its contemporaries and had this modern look that everyone was apt to notice. Its power was increased with a larger engine capacity. The Corvette Stingray ’62 model became a favorite among car collectors because of the different image that it projected-sophistication and speed.
By 1963, another modification for the Corvette was in the making and the “spilt screen” was introduced with the pop up headlights that has been the mark of the Corvette until today. The “Split Screen” only saw production for only a year though. And so it was until 1965 which gave rise to a powerful corvette 6.4 liter V8 425 BHP engine that gave such a boost in the vehicles speed staying power.
The body of the “Sting Ray” was altered in the 1968 model of the flashy car with curved steel emphasizing its different look in its series. 1969 saw the car took a different trend in name calling as it merged its two syllable name into one, making “ Sting Ray” into “Stingray “. Many alterations followed after that when government issued sanctions and control formed on cars over the years. In 1979, the production of the beautiful Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was stopped.
