The Honda CR-V was manufactured by a Japanese company popularly known as Honda, back fifteen years ago. The Honda CR-V was derived from Honda Civic, after the need of satisfying customers demand of having a sports car from Honda was identified. The meaning of CR-V has over time been experiencing lot of confusion depending on the different markets in existence. UK reportedly made its reference to the CR-V meaning Compact Recreational Vehicle, while other Honda references provided Comfortable Runabout Vehicle as the meaning.
Whichever the case, the Honda CR-V is produced with both options of front-wheel and all-wheel drive. Nevertheless, most of the markets including UK and Australia offer only the all-wheel drive Honda CR-V.
The Honda CR-V was introduced in the year 1996, one of the few first SUVs small cars at the market. Despite the Honda CR-V then being underpowered, most of the customers gave appreciation to the combination it provided, including the spacious versatile interior, low fuel consumption, reliability and the all-wheel drive.
And to the inside of the Honda CR-V, you will get easy use controls, a panel that is user friendly, sufficient cargo space and lot of attracting features among them a carpet - under-the-trunk model and a fold-out picnic table.
What about the Honda CR-V engine? The 1996 Honda CR-V models were equipped with 4-cylinder mounting 2.0litres and 126 hp with 4valves per cylinder. After then, the release of 1999 models were more modified, receiving additional 20hp-making it 146hp. The engine was a bit more reliable and also provided ease of maintenance. The 1997-01 models have an engine which has timing belt that needs be replaced at the recommended intervals.
Advantages of the Honda CR-V are its good fuel consumption, lot of space for the cargo and good resale value. The limitations are that it has engine noise when on road; it’s a bit underpowered, the low capacity for towing and no v6 engine.
