Alfa Romeo has been at the forefront of vehicular technology for centuries. They were the original designers of the trademarked double overhead cam engine which has two camshafts located withing the cylinder head. Alfa Romeo has commissioned the use of many prestigious Italian design companies such as Bertone and Giorgetto Giugiaro, among others, to create concept designs for their vehicle models. Recent models to come off of the production floor include the Alpha Romeo 159 and the Brera. The 159 model was awarded third place at the European Car of the Year awards of 2006.
